The network is based on the four-corner model. Each participating organization uses its own service provider, known as a Peppol Access Point, while all participants follow the same international standards. But when and why was Peppol created?

Peppol was launched in 2008 as a European Commission initiative with clear objectives:

• Simplify public procurement within the European Union.
• Remove trade barriers and complex administrative obstacles between countries.
• Make it easier for companies to trade across borders.

What began as a European project quickly developed into a global standard. Today, Peppol is actively used across Europe and beyond, including in countries such as:
